You have the maternity and newborn pictures crossed off the list, now time for the big kid(s) and mom and dad having fun, being themselves. I love capturing kids running around, discovering something in nature, and interacting with each other. Now is your chance to move from behind the lens to in front of it, and finally get those complete family portraits. And not the cheesy JCPenney studio kind!
Family portraits will be shot outside, at a location of your choosing. It's best to pick a place that has meaning for your family, but also one with many different types of scenery to switch up the backdrops and keep the photos interesting.
Things to have handy for the shoot are:
- Coordinated, but not matching, clothes
- Completely uncoordinated, favorite outfits (to show true personality)
- Favorite toys (current ones, to show what they played with at this particular stage. These also help them feel comfortable!)
- Snacks and water (in case kids get hungry or thirsty)
- Umbrellas, rain boots, snow boots, sunglasses, and anything else weather appropriate!
